About The Course

Ten Qirats are the ten famous methods of the Quran recitations by the famous authority chains holders. Each Qira’at derives its name from the famous Rawi, the one who narrates it with an established and authenticated chain. Each Qira’at is recited by the master with all variants. It’s a kind of corpus of recitation, that is then referred to the master by the students.

Ten Qira’ats are not like different voices and different styles, rather these are slight differences in pronunciation, letters, and Harakat. It’s when you compare two different books of the Quran and you find differences between them, as each qiraa’a has its own tajweed rules.

  7. Qirat Al-Kisaa’i (Kufa)
    The two Qaris who preserved this way of Quran recitation are Al-Layth and Ad-Doori.
  8. Qirat Abu Ja’far Al-Madanee (Madinah)
    The two Qaris who preserved this way of recitation are Isa and Sulayman.
  9. Qirat Yaqub ibn Al-Basri (Basra)
    Imam Bukhari is reported that he has recited in this manner of the recitation. Also, the two famous Qaris who narrated this recitation are Ruways and Rooh.
  10. Qirat Khalaf Al-Bazzar (Baghdad)
    The two famous Qaris who recited this recitation are Ishaq and Idris

What is Hifz in Quran?

Linguistically, “Hifz” is an Arabic word “حِفْظ” which means “to keep”. In terms of the Quran, it means to memorize the Quranic verses and recite them from memory.
Once a Muslim completely memorizes the Quran, called Hafiz (for male) or Hafiza (for female). Hafiz linguistically means “guardian” or “memorizer” which is actually Arabic word (“حافظ”), adjective from “حِفْظ”.

What is Tajweed?

Linguistically, the word “Tajweed” means to enhance, to do better. In the context of the recitation of the Quran, tajwīd (Arabic: تَجْوِيدْ‎ tajwīd) is a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters with all their qualities and applying the various traditional methods of recitation (Qira’at). In Arabic, the term tajwīd is derived from the triliteral root (j-w-d), meaning enhancement or to make something excellent. Technically, it means giving every letter its right in reciting the Qur’an.

In other words, Tajweed is a set of rules for proper pronunciation and recital of the Quran. It is meant to replicate the way the prophet Mohammad (PBUH) recited the Quran. Learning tajweed means learning how to pronounce the letters in the words correctly, which covers matters like when a consonant is silent or not and how long a vowel is kept.
